India’s most important international B2B trade fair for toys,
children’s products and sports goods takes place from 31 August to 2
September at the modern Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai organised by Spielwarenmesse India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary
of Spielwarenmesse eG, and the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.
The fair offers an ideal entry point into a rapidly growing market. At
the fair’s 2022 restart following an enforced two-year break for the

NCPA - A free online workshop on Zoom by Dr.Prakkash R.Sharoff
Management of physical health from the perspective of a performer
Workshop aimed at helping artistes to understand the positive and
negative implications of the posture, and its role in enhancing overall
efficiency. The session included discussing the three main postures
(sitting cross-legged, sitting on a chair/stool and standing) adopted by
artistes. Suggestions offered to correct the posture, which can
prevent repetitive stress injuries and delay the degeneration of joints
due to undue stress and tips for increasing the
efficiency of muscles and joints by putting them in a biomechanically
advantageous position, and thus enhancing the overall capacity.
Dr. Prakkash R. Sharoff is a distinguished physiotherapist who is trained in orthopaedics, sports and manual therapy.
Having vast experience in dealing with pre- and post-operative
rehabilitation of orthopaedic and sports injuries, he serves on the
panels of various international organisations such as the Olympic Gold
Quest. He is the first Asian official at the Neuro Orthopaedic
Institute, Australasia, and an award-winning physiotherapist, serving as
the Director of Physiohealth Pain Management & Performance

IFA seeks to implement Curated Artistic Engagements on Bangalore that
reflect upon the city by asking questions or by offering multiple
imaginations of the cosmopolis. Engagements could include storytelling,
music, performances, installations, exhibitions, gaming,
lecture-performances, public discussions and other such activities that
would offer new perspectives, foreground unheard voices, and encourage
people to reimagine the city through the arts and culture. The
presentation of these curatorial engagements must be public and in a
physical format, with virtual elements in part, if necessary.
Duration of the project: 8-10 activities have to take place at regular intervals within 12 months
Budget: Up to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh

Yaadein - A bouquet of ghazals by Chandan Dass and group

The ghazal is a special form of poetry that lends itself to be set in a musical frame, further enhancing its emotional appeal.
Chandan Dass was trained under maestros Moosa Khan and Mani Prasad.
Having been heavily influenced by the legendary ghazal exponent, Ghulam
Ali Khan, he took to the world of ghazal and composed music for all his
albums. With several award-winning albums to his credit, today, Dass is
one of the prominent exponents of ghazal.
A bouquet of ghazals composed by classic poets like Bashir Badr and Nida
Fazli, along with works of contemporary poets like Payam Saeedi,
Ibrahim Ashq and Azeem Malik.

The FOURTEENTH KALASAGAR AWARDS for exemplary contribution in the
field of traditional performing arts for the year 2023 is announced.
Kalasagar awards are given in honor of the artistes in the field of
Kathakali - Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam and Chutty as well as
Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu,
Koodiyattam, Thayambaka, and Panchavadyam - thimila, maddalam,
edakka, ilathalam and kombu. As in the past awardees are selected
through nominations received from art connoisseurs.
The Kalasagar Awards will be presented on May 28 on the occasion of the
birth anniversary of Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, legendary
Kathakali maestro and the founder of Kalasagar. The event is being
organized at Karalmanna Vazhenkada Knju Nair Trust Hall in association
with Vazhenkada Kunju Nair Smaraka Trust and supported by Ministry of
Culture, Government of India.

Neokalari, an organisation founded by Lavanyaa and Gladston,
specialises in promoting and practicing the traditional martial art
forms Kalaripayattu and Silambam. Neokalari in collaboration with
Bharata Kalanjali is organising a unique event KALARI-SILAMBAM ON STAGE
along with their students. Neokalari presented various
Kalaripayattu and Silambam movements, sequences and weapon combat
including kettukari (long stick), muchaan (short stick) and vaal (sword
fighting) for the first time on stage in Chennai.
Lavanyaa and Gladston are advanced practitioners of Kalaripayattu and
Silambam and have been learning, practicing and imparting their
knowledge to aspiring students of varied age groups for almost 2
decades. Lavanyaa, a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, is a disciple of the
Dhananjayans. Gladston has a deep interest in martial arts from a young
age, and is especially influenced by Asian forms.

This exhibition, as part of the grant given to Mala Pradeep Sinha and
her collaborator Suchitra Balasubrahmanyan, celebrates the life and work
of Maneklal Gajjar (1928-2012), textile block maker and master
craftsman from Pethapur, Gujarat. Maneklal transcended the conventional
boundaries between craft and design and received national awards and
international acknowledgement for his work by dint of his own
personality, initiative and wisdom.
Through materials selected from Maneklal’s vast archive of his designs,
correspondence with clients, books of accounts, photographs and films,
one meets a modern personality who is self-conscious and self-reflexive.
We catch a glimpse of his work, and the shaping of his aesthetic and
social persona.
Alongside the immersive exhibition, Mala and Suchitra will also be producing a detailed and illustrated biography of Maneklal.
Mala Pradeep Sinha is a textile designer based in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Suchitra Balasubrahmanyan is an independent scholar.

Bhakti in Indian Music Traditions - Seminar - Jan 21 & 22, 2023
International Foundation for Fine Arts in collaboration with National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA)
Since ancient times, aspect of bhakti has been the mainstay of Indian
culture and it is but natural that the element of devotion has its
reflection in almost all music traditions prevalent in India. Besides
bhakti sangeet, a genre which is completely identified with
devotion/dedication towards the Ultimate creator and/ the Guru, there
are myriad other traditions from folk and classical (art) to
semi-classical and light music showing a marked influence of bhakti
philosophy in varied measures.
Starting with the period around 1500 AD, this seminar explored
different genres and forms of music to understand relevance of the
bhakti element. Besides academic deliberations by the experts on the
origin and history of different forms, there will be ample
demonstrations offered by reputed practitioners of respective genres.

NCPA presented a free online workshop on FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR PERFORMING ARTISTES by Anjan Piprodia.
This workshop is essentially aimed at empowering the performing
artistes to take charge of their financial future to help
participants to plan financial goals and means to achieve the near term
and long terms objectives. The speaker focussed on the defined path to
achieve the goals, as attainment becomes a major challenge. The
presentation also demonstrated the power of compounding and how a
disciplined approach can support investments and wealth creation along
with diversification and asset allocation.
