Sarangadeva - Musicologist: (13th century)
Authored 'Sangita Ratnakara' the
greatest work after Bharata's 'Natya Sastra'. Hailed as "Nissanka", as
he was supreme in knowledge of music. 'Sangita' as referring to music
alone
came to be used first by him. A magnificient musicologist.
Sarangadeva's grandfather came to Deccan from Kashmir & the family
settle here. He is known for his monumental work on Indian music the
"Sangita Ratnakara". He lived in times of threat from foreign powers,
but he withstood all troubles & contributed greatly to Indian music.
