March 2020
Pichwai paintings depict Krishna, particularly as Srinathji, Nathdwara's (north of Udaipur, Rajastan) resident deity.
Pichwai literally means pich - behind ; wai - a textile hanging. These
were traditionally createds to be hung behind the deity in the sanctum.
The 17th century artists created these paintings on cloth using natural
colours along with gold. The technique is basically the miniature
painting style.
